Deogratious (known as Deo for short) is a passionate student pursuing his certificate in accounting. He began his CROSO scholarship in 2021 and is studying at the YMCA Comprehensive Institute in Kampala. Deo’s interest in accounting naturally follows his creativity and history of starting small businesses. In his community, Deo says he can be described as, “an innovative mind with good ideas.” He recognizes that, “this aspect makes others drawn to me when it comes to [the] startup of projects.” Within Deo’s first year of his program, he had the opportunity to build on his business experience. For a school assignment, he created a project that involves identifying the many uses of okra seeds and creating a marketing plan to expand their cultivation and sales in his community. Deo and his classmates also went on field trips to different organizations in Uganda like the Bank of Uganda, NSSF, and Tororo Cement industry. As a result, he learned about business management skills and revenue flow in Uganda, and had the chance to interact and learn from people employed at these businesses.

Deogratious’ Vision for the future:

In his near future, Deo is looking forward to participating in internships to gain hands-on experience. Deo’s eagerness to learn is shown through his ambitions and aspirations, “The desire to reach my career goal of being an accountant and also the dream of becoming the first person in my family to reach this level.” His compassion and love for his community has influenced his goals in life as he hopes to become a “good accountant to resolve the wide spread of corruption in the financial system in my country.”

More information on Deogratious’ background:

Throughout Deo’s life, he has maintained a strong work ethic, hope and ambition. Despite having lost a parent in 2008 and having dealt with mistreatment, Deo’s strong demeanor has persevered and has guided him to the path of scholarship. Before joining CROSO, Deo exhibited leadership and excellence in a variety of activities. Deo showed integrity as he managed the earnings of past employers with honesty and professionalism. Along with integrity, Deo had various leadership experiences including leading CRO’s acrobatics group since 2009 and guiding his school’s science club to victory in a science fair competition in 2017. He was a peer educator and was personally chosen by the C.R.O. Sponsorship Office to assist and teach the Rehabilitation Class in letter writing to their sponsors.
