Child Restoration Outreach Gives New Hope to Uganda's Street Children

posted Jun 27, 2012, 3:54 PM by Molly Heineman

This article in the UG Pulse talks about the many services that our sister organization, C.R.O., does for the street children in Uganda.  It also tells the story of a young man who was able to overcome the challenges of street life with the help of C.R.O.  By sharing more of the stories of these young people in Uganda, we hope that everyone is gaining a better understanding of the context there.

It's from several years ago, but is still informative:

posted Jun 10, 2012, 10:55 PM by Molly Heineman

Good article this week in the Ugandan newspaper (Daily Monitor) about why it is necessary to address the issues of street children.  The article explains some of the causes of street children and frames the issue nicely by discussing the importance of rallying the community to discuss it.

"Uganda children mining sand to pay for school"

posted Feb 16, 2012, 9:55 PM by Molly Heineman

Aljazeera covered a story last month about Ugandan students mining sand to help pay school fees.  Take a moment to watch this short video-- it really explains some of the challenges that are faced despite "free" primary school.  As the reporter mentions, "the temptation to stay away from school is strong."  Many of these same issues are faced by the children we support.  Most C.R.O. children were originally found working on the streets.  The video mentions the International Labor Organization (ILO) and C.R.O. is actually a member of that organization as well- working to advocate for children's rights and for fewer children to be working.
