Prospective Students

The Process
Applicants are all currently supported by C.R.O. (Child Restoration Outreach), an NGO in Uganda that supports rehabilitation of street children. Students must complete an application (which includes short answer questions, recommendations from their secondary school teacher & staff members from C.R.O.) and all applications are mailed by C.R.O. to CROSO in Skokie, Illinois, USA.  Once applications are received, the CROSO Board of Directors has an opportunity to evaluate the applications based on the criteria listed below.  The CROSO Board also communicates with the C.R.O. Project Manager to obtain more information about the applicants.  The number of scholarships provided each year depends on the amount of funds raised.  CROSO only agrees to sponsor students when confident they can provide support (tuition, room & board, books) for the student's entire academic program.

The Criteria
While all materials provided by the applicant will be considered, the CROSO Board has chosen to focus on the following qualities:
- Clear academic and life goals that can be met by attending their prospective institution, college or university.
- Service to others (as demonstrated through awards received, leadership positions held, assistance provided at C.R.O., etc.)
- Honesty and willingness to share their story.  The CROSO Board appreciates gaining a better understanding why each particular student feels access to education would benefit them significantly.
- Strong recommendation from C.R.O. staff.

The Requirements to Maintain a CROSO Scholarship
In addition to holding C.R.O. and the students accountable for the support CROSO provides, these requirements also hope to continue cultivating the spirit of giving back to your own community among the students.  Therefore, CROSO students must:
- maintain a 3.2 GPA.
- report each term's grades to CROSO.
- write a letter to CROSO once per term.
- assist at C.R.O. during their holidays from school or find an internship/research placement.  If the student is not helping at C.R.O., they must communicate with CROSO about their alternative activities.
