Nalwoga Brenda

Brenda is extremely passionate about serving women and children. Following her graduation from C.R.O., she obtained her nursing certificate and worked in a hospital to save up in order to continue her education. With her strong mentality of service, she helped those around her in whatever ways she could, such as prescribing treatment and ensuring those in her community had access to healthcare. A year into her diploma program, she ran out of funds, and she applied for the CROSO Scholarship to finish her program. CROSO supported her to complete her diploma in midwifery at the Mbale School of Nursing and Midwifery where she graduated in 2018.

Brenda re-applied for the CROSO Scholarship and was accepted. She started studying at the Victoria University of Kampala for her Bachelor’s in Nursing in 2018. When asked her best quality, Brenda responded with a unique characteristic: openness. She is open to asking questions and states this ability to listen and search for the truth has helped her in school and work. Likewise, her teacher Okuda Matthew Orello states, “She has always been open and ready to admit mistakes.” Brenda understands she will make mistakes, and she learns from those mistakes to be the best in her profession. 

Between her first and second year, Brenda had the opportunity to complete a practicum experience. She was placed in Bumwambu Health Center 3, up in the hills of eastern Uganda. Due to the remoteness of the area, they often lack power, cell phone network, and the rains can make it difficult to access main roads to the larger health care facilities. While there, one of the patients she assisted had been in a motorcycle accident and required resuscitation before he could be transferred to the larger district hospital.

All of Brenda’s life experiences and hard work have contributed to her current success academically.

Vision for the Future: 

Upon finishing her schooling, Brenda hopes to become a Senior Nursing Officer in midwifery, a high position. As a midwife, Brenda strives to reduce maternal and child death rates in her homeland. Therefore, she applies herself heavily in her studies to brighten the future of Mbale and its future generations. A positive soul, Brenda smiles when she says, “I will not live a life of regret because I can live by my own. I can facilitate anything by my own.”

More Background on Brenda:

Nalwoga Brenda, the second oldest in a household of twelve, grew up as a leader in her family. When her parents divorced and the children were pushed onto the streets, Brenda found ways to provide food and housing for her younger sisters. With support from C.R.O., Brenda was able to return to school and further her passion for helping those younger than her. Brenda’s dedication to helping others was evident in her volunteer work with children at the C.R.O. clinic and as a peer leader of praise and worship at her church.
