Brenda was selected for the CROSO Scholarship in 2019. She is pursuing a bachelor’s of science in agriculture because she has a deep passion for this work. Prior to becoming a CROSO Scholar, she was able to gain her certificate in agriculture and began working volunteering in Lira. She is extremely passionate about working in her community in order to improve agricultural practices. Brenda is currently attending Uganda Martyrs University as a distance learning student, so that she can continue building her professional experiences and network in Lira.

Brenda goes into this degree program with an awareness of how influential it can be to her community, but also knowing that some people in her community do not put a high esteem on the farming industry. In her application, she wrote, “The youth of nowadays are so biased about agriculture thinking it’s a dirty job, yet it’s the opposite.” Brenda is excited to have this opportunity to continue building her career and hopes to empower youths to engage more in agriculture.

Vision for the Future:

Once Brenda completes her bachelor’s degree, she will be able to obtain a job as an agronomist, agricultural officer, or a production officer throughout any district in Uganda. More specifically, Brenda stated, “I would like to train farmers to improve production in the agricultural sector to build more experience in my field of work.”

More on Brenda’s Background:

In 2004, Brenda’s community was invaded by Joseph Kony and his troops known as the Lord’s Resistance Army. Brenda’s family suffered immensely since their home was burned down by rebels and they ended up being displaced in a neighboring district. Since Brenda has a large family her parents struggled to care for them. After scavenging the streets for food, Brenda was found byC.R.O. who was able to provide her with some support. With C.R.O.’s help, Brenda was able to attend school and she soon was able to thrive in that environment. She became the female representative for her class and managed to play a significant role in resolving a strike that occurred at her school.
